Project:

East Grinstead

Client:

Downland Housing Association

Contract Sum:

£3,000,000

Description:

Community centre with sheltered accommodation for 28 supported housing units for occupants over the age of 56. The project was the product of three different agencies, working together with consultants and contractor, to produce a quality building in this prominent location. The scheme uses the topography of the old car park to create a level access into the principle floor, comprising Resource Centre and disabled residential accommodation, whilst providing increased car parking around and under the transfer deck of the building. The design has echoes of railway architecture with its arched colonnade and terracing offering protection and screening with decorative balustrading and brickwork arches and grilles at Lower Ground Floor Level. The residential accommodation at First and Second Floor Level is finished with terra cotta cladding, an insulated render system and colour coded windows under a natural slate roof.
