This proposed renovation of Grace Eyre’s locally listed premises in Hove will transform the existing church building into a supported living environment and a versatile community facility. The design focuses on enhancing sustainability, accessibility, and fire safety, while adapting the space to better support adults with learning disabilities.

Deacon + Richardson Architects were appointed to lead the development of a comprehensive renovation strategy, supporting the Grace Eyre Foundation’s mission to empower people with learning disabilities to live independent and fulfilling lives.

The project involves a partial change of use, external alterations, and a full internal refurbishment. The aim is to create a modern, inclusive, and energy-efficient facility that reflects the charity’s evolving needs and long-term vision.

The reconfigured building will be divided into two main zones. To the west, supported living accommodation will be provided, tailored specifically for adults with learning disabilities. To the east, a flexible, multi-purpose space will be developed to host the charity’s operational services and community programmes.

Throughout the scheme, the design prioritises accessibility, fire safety, and energy performance—ensuring the building is not only fit for purpose but also fully aligned with Grace Eyre’s inclusive ethos and commitment to sustainability.
